I’m not a radio expert, but these radios, better known as the WLN kd-c1 or Zastone x6, seem to be regarded as the best cheap radios you can buy at the moment. In use, they were found to have very good range and the speaker and mic sound very good. Look for reviews of the WLN KD-C1.

This product specifically deserves attention for being sold more cheaply than the X6 or KD-C1 (at least when I bought a pair), coming programmed for PMR446 (the license free walkie-talkie band in the UK) and having some accessories.

The programming and PMR446: They come programmed on PMR446 frequencies, but oddly with `Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System set. This means they transmit a sub-audible tone and expect to hear this same tone for it to output what they receive. The idea of this is that multiple users can use the same radio channel without having to hear each other. But in this case, since the radios don’t say what tone they’re using you’ll have trouble setting up other radios to work with them. This can be fixed by buying a programming cable (for beofeng radios) and using the free CHIRP software to reprogram the radios. I found a cable for £3 inc P&P.
A second problem is that these aren’t technically PRM446 radios – the output power is too high.

The radio: Like I said, see WLN KD-C1 reviews. The radio feels pretty tough. Not waterproof. You’re not going to damage the antenna like you might on competitors such as the Beofeng 888. You can charge directly with USB, but you’ll need a special cable to reprogram the radio. The buttons feel good enough. Holding the + button turns off the squelch. Holding – button sets the radio to scan mode. The radio uses Nokia bl-5c batteries. There is a vox option in software, but it appears you either have VOX for all your channels or none.

Accessories: A belt clip, a charging dock and a wall wart is included with each radio (so in a two set you get two of each). The belt clip is fine. Charging dock has space for a spare battery, but I don’t trust it when it says the radios are charged. Having taken apart the wall wart, I’m not sure I really want to plug it in. I’m charging my radios using a USB cable from my PC.

I’m not going to say this kit is perfect, because it isn’t. But for the price, its very good. I would recommend getting a programming cable if you’re buying these.

Good solid little radios that can be re-programmed to the ham frequencies.
I have been able to contact repeaters a good 25 miles away from inside the car.
Receive seems very sensitive as well. Charges from a USB port and pocket sized.

In my humble opinion the best version of this radio on Amazon and I have tried 3 different brands. Why? Firstly the best price, secondly they are all pretty much identical, thirdly they come with European plug transformer. and finally they are in stock for quick delivery. These are not really licence free radios as the output is far higher than the UK regulations stipulate however as has been stated they are easily programmed from a PC with the lead available on here for around £6 to UK business lite frequencies. The build quality is good for what the are…lowest common denominator radios. Robust, simple, powerful enough for shops, bars, small campuses with an excellent battery life and integrated aerial that won’t get broken. All in all, excellent seller, quick delivery and this is very good value for money.
